Introduction
Ever since my TEDx-talk on Storytelling was released I've been asked the same questions a thousand times; "do you have more material?" and "have you written a book?" Books are wonderful, but for the complete experience, I believe in a format that can be updated instantaneously. Allowing for new content, new chapters, updated videos, texts, interactions, animations and a robust community constantly growing. Presenting the ancient art of Storytelling to the format of the future seems to be a good idea in many ways, because it is relevant to the current, and more than ever we are depending on stories to carry forth the ideas we so boldly embrace. So finally here it is - all you will ever need to be able to mix your own angel's cocktails and create amazing effects for your listeners.
YOU ARE A STORYTELLER
In all human history, we have gathered around the fireplace and listened as the elders told stories, and they told these stories really well. The younger ones listened attentively like nothing else existed. This practice of listening, engaging and considering allowed them to learn the skills and techniques which in turn meant that they became natural storytellers themselves. These days, the practice of telling each other stories in an intentional and meaningful way, has disappeared and that needs to change. If all school teachers in the world incorporated the knowledge and skills of telling stories, they would be able to create focus from all kids, even those addicted to their mobile phones. Storytelling is an ancient art, and it beats everything all learning styles. Yet, we have evolved to a place where we no longer value its true power.
Five years ago I wasn't a good storyteller, but today I am. If you give me any subject or object, I can whip up an entertaining story from my imagination, using structure, skills, techniques and methods to help me deliver. The truth is that I learned how to tell stories and so can you!
Now that you are about to dive into the intricate layers of Storytelling, allow me to give you my recommendations for a successful journey:
- Take the course slowly over 3 months.
- Practice, practice and practice each chapter for one week at a time.
Welcome to my Universe, the universe of Storytelling!
